Kralendijk Bonaire: 7 Dec 2008 to 8 Dec 2008
Bonaire, Curaçao’s quieter sister island, holds particular appeal to those who enjoy underwater exploration and to those who seek to add to their life list of feathered friends. Beneath the surface, colourful swarms of tropical fish flash past vibrant coral gardens. Ashore, over 170 avian species are found on the island. Bonaire’s national bird, the flamingo, outnumbers human residents by far. Frigatebirds (watch for the male’s inflatable red throat pouch), pelicans and egrets compete for the freshest seafood, while the Caribbean parakeet and yellow-shouldered parrot are found here and nowhere else.
