Kimberley Coast: 31 Jan 2010 to 2 Feb 2010

The red, chiseled coastline of The Kimberley contrasts dramatically with the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Tranquil rivers lead to steep gorges, hidden waterfalls and small pockets of rainforest. Isolated white sand beaches stretch for miles, unmarked by human footprints. Sail past some of the 1000 islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago, perhaps catching a glimpse of the unusual Horizontal Waterfalls in Talbot Bay.

One of the nine regions of Western Australia, The Kimberley covers an area three times the size of England. The first settlers arrived some 40.000 years ago, making their way across the ocean from Indonesia—the first Europeans took a bit longer, not arriving until the late 1800s.
