Cardiff, Wales: 1 Aug 2010 to 3 Aug 2010

Cardiff, capital of Wales and its largest city, boasts a 2000-year old castle and a futuristic Millennium Centre, an award-winning performance venue. Edward I ordered the castle built in 1295, but it would be another six centuries before Edward VII declared Cardiff a city.

Naturally, there is no shortage of historic sites and museums—the Welsh Folk Museum and the open-air St. Fagan’s National History Museum won’t disappoint. In recent years Cardiff has dusted off its previously rather stodgy reputation to become one of the Britain’s liveliest destinations, hosting international sporting events and offering world class theatre, music and dance. Our visit coincides with the 2010 Cardiff Festival, a summer long outdoor event featuring music, street entertainers, theatre and comedy.
