Collioure: 19 Jun 2010 to 22 Jun 2010

The brilliance of sun and sky reflecting off Collioure as it is nestled into a picturesque cove on the Cote Vermeille has inspired painters from Matisse to Dali to Picasso. Art galleries and seafood restaurants line cobble-stoned streets under the protective watch of the 800-year-old Chateau Royal and the 17th century lighthouse tower of the Eglise Notre Dame des Anges, the Church of Our Lady of the Angels. The church’s altarpiece is considered to be a masterpiece of Catalan Baroque workmanship. Four beaches—Plage St. Vicent, Plage Bromar, Plage de Port D’Avall and Plage Nord—are tucked away along the rocky coastline and as you find yourself strolling through Collioure’s old town at sunset, you, too might suddenly see what so moved Matisse and cohorts.
